About Me
Hello, metal basher's, I have been a blue collar worker "drone" most of my working life, for the last twenty years I was lucky to get out of production machining, and work in automatic machine design and building,(robotics),this was a perfect place for me to use many of my varied talents, trades, interests, passions.
Two weeks after starting, I was given carte' blanch,
had a fine collegial atmosphere to work in.
Three years ago my boss passed away. The company folded, despite the wishes of his wife, our main customers, and the efforts I and others made.
Then the "bubble" burst, so it is probably the best thing that could have happened to me.
Who would like to amass debts they might never be able to pay off, especially in this economic climate.
Now I, at the ripe old age of 58 and, more disabled than ever, have embarked on the quest of artist, metal sculpture has long been what I would most like to pursue.
This may be a long shot, however I am bursting at the seams with ideas, I always have been.
I know I have had the natural inborn talent.
I feel confident, and all that have seen the small body of work,so far, have had much praise for it.
With some admitted doubts, mostly regarding timing,
I forge ahead.
"Modern Man" Studios named after a serious sculpture I made while in high school, also my first attempt at welded metal sculpture.
It won second prize! My teachers, true artists all, had felt that I had "IT", and were not hesitant to tell me this.
This piece and much of my work is non- representational abstract, fusion welded steel or copper, often with hammering for strengthening and texture. I am looking forward to casting, too.
My practice will be a little bit "green" as I enjoy
using found metal as well as the "scrap yard" for a source of metal.
I will soon be trying some "life forms" of some sort, among these ideas some will be whimsical.
All the work so far has been "table top" or, "bookshelf size", as they are a cost effective way to convey my vision, very much looking forward to
larger sizes.
