This is a beautiful working anvil no matter who and when made it. - No offense or anything just saying If you want a big anvil and it's an affordable or almost affordable one - get it. And just for the shot's sake I think it's an English model, wrought iron with steel face. But really... who cares if it does the job perfectly. Well, others can say only wiser things on this, that for sure Bests: Gergely

ThomasPowers
Me I was wondering if it might be a cast steel anvil like a Brooks
Marc1
Must wait for the owner to sling her up with the forklift and take more pictures. I can't see any plate and there is what seems to be a hole in the waist but none on the feet ... mm ... Would a rifle round make such deep indentation in cast? Anyway wait and see. Anvil is 8 hs drive away, but the price may be worth my time. I'll let you know how it goes ...
ThomasPowers
I've been able to turn large anvils over by sticking a long steel rod in the hardy hole and using the leverage to flip it over to the other side.
Marc1
I picture myself doing that and then get flung over by the anvil flipping ha ha
ThomasPowers
Well we were hoping.....If you can lift it up, you can set it down controlled; or just let go and see if the pallet survives...
Marc1
Sure, problem is that it's 8 hs drive away and it is still a work week. Owner promised more photos for the w/end. What do you think of the bullet mark? Does it say anything about cast or forged?
ThomasPowers
Not unless you can get details on what shot it. AP vs soft lead, etc...
Marc1
Being pig country I would guess 308 winchester soft nose or 7.62x39, the latter cheap chinese ammo has a steel billet in it ... just a guess.
JHCC
You could always build a trebuchet and fire it back.
Marc1
Mm ... you guys are expert at blowing anvils up in the air ... it would probably take a fair amount of black powder to do that with this fat boy.
ThomasPowers
Killing pigs with anvils is a messy messy thing---and sometimes the pig wins...
