Forging Carver
Hi, my parents went away and they found this strange looking anvil. My dad thinks maybe it was used to slip on top of a railroad track. I believe the guy is asking $235. Please let me know what you know about this. Thanks
Jim Coke
Greetings Forging Carver, What you have is part of a common bench mount vise anvil combo.. Cast iron with little or no value . Walk away .. Forge on and make beautiful things Jim
Nick O
That's an old vice anvil I seen one on auction go for less than $80 and was complete and not used much this was also a auction with tons of tools it was a auction meant for blacksmiths
Glenn
Only half of the full unit. Cast iron and for very light work, not blacksmithing. The interesting part is the movable jaw was adjusted to close and a rod put through both pieces to hold it in place. You could than use the screw for fine adjustments, and clamping the material to be held.
ThomasPowers
you might use it for straightening nails if you could get it for US$
Forging Carver
OH alright so it's a pretty big rip off then. Thanks for the help
Glenn
Not a rip off at the right price. Useful for blacksmithing, not much. If the fellow is asking $235 you may want to ask what he wants for the whole package and all the parts, not just one piece. Some come with a drill, etc
Forging Carver
Yeah true. I really don't need it anyways, but if it were something rare I might have gotten it and maybe flip it. Thanks glenn
John McPherson
I would pay two thirty five for that. $2.35, that is.
