the iron dwarf
have a quantity of lamination's from a very old arc welder and I seem to remember seeing somewhere that they are a soft iron rather than steel, would they be useful as layers in a billet or for any other use.thought I would ask before they go for recycling tomorrow
j.w.s.
The ones I used to deal with were a silicon steel, but that was from very large dry transformers. Very little carbon (because it degrades electrical flow over time), high silicon which makes them very brittle, manganese and aluminum. I would say the only real use for them is rewrapping electrical motors or transformers. J
the iron dwarf
this was an oil filled one, maybe 70 years old, a friend wanted the 5/16" square copper the windings were made from.will get rid of most of it and maybe keep a little to play with

the iron dwarf
has been out of the casing for a long time and exposed to the elements, the lamination's and windings were lacquered, the windings first insulated with cloth tape wrapped round then
