I Forge Iron

Recommended Posts

Clearing out some old books at the historic village where I work and came across this old 1955 edition of "Wrought Steels - Bars, Billets and Forgings". It has loads of information about the chemical analysis, composition and applications of various steels. A British publication.

I was going to bin it but thought it may be of use to someone somewhere who's interested in such highly technical stuff. Would be happy to mail it to anyone who wants it. Any use or in the bin?

Here's a pic:

No worries, Glenn, I'll send you the book on Monday. I wasn't sure if it was of use, but glad I didn't throw it out now. We have ditched literally hundreds of books, as we need the storage room for new acquisitions. As a teacher, I feel great pain throwing away books, but I just have to bite the bullet.

I have kept most books of historical value - lots of old car manuals, agricultural mail order catalogues, 1920's motoring magazines, Dyke's encyclopaedias and related motor mechanic stuff, steam engine manuals, tractor manuals (we specialise in the old 2 cyl John Deeres) - that sort of thing.

But yes, I will post here anything that may be of interest to the metal trades that we can't use.

Ausfire, your book arrived Saturday PM in good condition. THANK YOU.

Reading will go quickly but understanding what I read will certainly take some time. (grin)

No worries. As I said - very technical.

I really don't care what percentage of antimony is in my steel or what temperature to quench steel #xyz in oil.

Happy reading!
