jacob's hammer
Hi all, I'm jake and glad I found this forum. I recently purchased this 70lb anvil for $75 and was wondering if anyone here may recognise it. It has what looks like maybe an 'A' above and left of the '7'. Not sure if it is an 'A tho because font is curved. Those only markings I see. Seems fairly decent shape tho. Any help appreciated. Thanks
ThomasPowers
Pic doesn't work for me---remember to show a picture of the underside of the anvil as well as it can be crucial in identifying an anvil.
jacob's hammer
ok. I will get another ic at lunch. the '7' is not ictured either it is uunder horn side i believe. thanks
JME1149
Thick waist, feet shape and mounting cutouts make me think early Fisher but the heel looks wrong, too short maybe. Looks to be in good condition and at $75 is probably a good bargain. More pics from different angles would definitely be helpful. While you're at it, update your profile to show location, maybe a good chance one of us are close by.
ThomasPowers
is that a bolster under the heel around the hardy? If so may be a Badger anvil
jacob's hammer
This is how I have it now; chained to this stump. I was going to undue it for better pictures but decided not to because it really chained pretty good. I did take few more pics, maybe they will help. Thanks again. Crazy Ivan
I agree with Thomas. It is a Badger anvil. The bulge under the hardy hole plus the cut aways in the back foot under the heel were typical of a badger.
Randy Bill
indeed it is a 70# badger. I have one and it is an excellent anvil, my everyday anvil. cast body with steel face and not much info in AIA.

SilverDeck
Nice to see another person from Lincoln, Nebraska, here on the forum. This makes at least three that I know of ("postleg" being the other one).

Judson Yaggy
Lakeside was a store brand name. It was made by Hay Budden then stamped with whatever name the retailer wanted.
ThomasPowers
Good Brand! HB was one of the top US anvil makers
