It's got a Made in USA stamp on it, a "16" stamp on it, and this maker's mark which I've made a mock-up of to help get a better visual. Atha does seem to fit, being that under the marker's mark it has the name but is too crudded up to read but could make out AT_ _. I will have some full pictures later tonight after I'm finished cleaning up the faces. Once again, thanks everyone, it's really exciting to hear that people recommend its quality. Nelson; Early American Industries Association; 1999. ATHA TOOL COMPANY. The company was incorporated in 1891 by Benjamin Atha and may have been established as early as 1875. From 1884 through 1898, they bought out several companies. They were themselves bought by the Stanley Rule & Level Company in 1913, but Stanley retained their "A" in a horseshoe trademark until present times. They were especially noted for farrier tools but also made mining tools. There is some question as to whether Atha was formerly the Newark Steel Works. As for photos of the full sledge, here they are. I've don't most of the restoring that I want to do but the handle is still raw, I shaped it out of ash that I had as I've got no hickory.
