Striking Vise

Recommended Posts

Finally made up and mounted a striking vise in my new shop I built. Basically I found a nice heavy 4.5" vise cheap that someone had cut the leg off :( . Had some disc bolt that made a perfect stub leg, so I did a heavy bevel and welded it up with 7018. Mounted is opposite my anvil on the same stump. Forged a staple for the leg. Im trying to think up a nice clamp for the jaws that will let me lay large stock across the anvil, clamp it then use sledge.

The floor plate came out of my local steel yards "scrap" area. I think it was some kind of a jig plate that was used very little. It's 1/2" thick and weighs 250lbs.

This vise sits around 8" lower than my other vises so it works really good for upsetting or other projects that require heavy hammering.
