This one was hardened in Parks and had an initial RC of 63, now tempered to 50-60. I don't know what the steel is. Maybe someone could chime in. It seemed relatively easy to forge though. ThomasPowers Posted August 19, 2014 Share Posted August 19, 2014 When I lived in central OH and went by the fleamarket 3 times a week I had a standing buy point for old black diamond files and old files marked "cast steel" US$1 and I would buy them condition not a problem. I got a good supply and then some of the dealers would try to get more money for them. Took them a while to understand that I would buy all of them at a dollar and none of them for a penny more...I think I had 50 pounds or more of them when I moved out here.
