ausfire
I want to make a fuller to form a 1/4 inch groove. As a starting point I decided to make a bigger guillotine type fuller. This one has an old wheel brace (about 5/8 inch diameter) for the bottom part and a lump of flat bar shaped to the same profile on top. It sits quite firmly in the hardie hole and works well enough. It should be handy for decorative bottle opener handles, etc. This is a feature on a light poker shaft made with it:Now I need to make a smaller version, to make 1/4 inch depressions. I'm thinking it would be good to have one of these with interchangeable dies. Something to work on. Any guidelines from the experts would be most welcome. Frosty
Sure, make top and bottom dies with spacers so they fit the holder. For instance a piece of 1/4" x 1 1/2" strip with 1/4" rd. welded for the die face, one each, top & bottom. Each die has a piece of 3/8" x 1" strip welded to the struck or held side for the guide/spacers and they'll fit a 5/8" holder. Frosty The Lucky. ThomasPowers
I found some 1/4" hot rolled strapping that had a nice rounded edge I used for fullering. No need to weld just cut a length off and drill a hole for the pivot and drop it in your uprights.
