Dillon Sculpture
Short but sweet, forging down some 6" round to make some hammer dies.http://dillonsculptu...into-die-blocks
ironstein
The dies on that monster are huge! Makes that stuff you're forging look like silly putty!
John Larson
Thanks, DD. I can see your bottom die moving a small amount so whack in that wedge a bit. :-)
Madmike
Isn't it also ringing being loose ? Or is something else in your shop, I can't see anything bouncing ? Great job on the foundation by the way ;)
iron woodrow
love it, and i am so jealous!, i got to looking at the rest of your site, whose traction engine is that??,
Dillon Sculpture
The ring is coming from the treadle guard, I need to tag a cross bar to it. I can vary the amount of power by adjusting when the treadle bottoms out, it was set fairly mild :D Local antique tractor and gas engine exposition Woody, I posted here about the show before but was unable to find the thread. John Larson
I hope this thread can be kept up over time. I keep expecting Danger Dillon to be posting some updated material to show the steam hammer's development. I'm sure the man is busy.
Dillon Sculpture
Working John working, unfortunately not on the steam hammers... As you know being a one man operation, there is only so many hours in the day and bills need to be payed. The last hurdle is the forge as well. iron woodrow
BUMP! speaking of steam hammers, i just found out that mine was a steam hammer during sugar crushing season, and an air hammer in the slack.... no boilers running outside the season! John Larson
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I have not dropped out of the steam hammer R&D group, and I do spend some time sketching ideas, but my intent is to get my hammer backlog completed and also help my new shop mate try to get his fabrication business up and running. Dillon Sculpture
Santa didn't come around this year, I've been a bad, bad boy... I did see him on the beach yesterday though, we tipped our glass to each other. Should be full steam ahead next year fellas!
Armand Tatro
Mike: If you have been that bad Santa should have brought you a trailor load of coal! HO HO HO! Best wishes for the New Year! Armand
John Larson
Happy New Year to you steam hammer lovers. And anyone else who wanders past the door. I'm planning to be active in physical R&D on steam hammers this year and I'll share what I learn.
Daniel.85
Looking forward to your work John! 2013 will be a good year for steam hammers and induction forges :)
EWCTool
I saw on another website that the 700 is up and running. That hammer is very impressive when it comes to control. Float like butterfly, smash with thunder. I bet moving that much metal so effortlessly never gets old.
onetreeforge
My frind took this photo, there were a few steam hammers liying in the grass The anvils are in the other photos,
Dillon Sculpture
I have a long road ahead to realize the full potential of my efforts in insanity! I have recently been running a batch of items I hope to sale at the upcoming American Craft show in Atlanta, mid March. In this work I move through all four of the hammers and my hydraulic press, some in the same heat. I am amazed with the amount of production that can be done with the tools, it leaves my head spinning new ideas! I may have to install a large rotating table centered in this assemblage of madness :D
Kevin W
yess, Yeeesss, the lazy susan for blacksmith, the edge just under treadles... turning... turning man and forge in the direction of the machine that will direct his will onto and into steel ! Careful you get dizzy and fall into one of those little hammers of yours. Good luck at the show.
