I'm wondering if Glenn should start a new section on the forum where people can air their grievances and keep this sort of xxxx out of the blacksmithing section

Cheers

Usually we reserve a new section for topics that generate enough traffic to merit a section to themselves, such as Blacksmithing > Forges, which then became >Solid fuel, >Gas Fuel, >Oil, >Induction, etc.

IForgeIron is not set up as a umpire, nor do we want to be. When issues like this have come up before, we have taken the topic off line until we can contact both sides and caution them against bringing a PRIVATE matter into our PUBLIC FORUM. In most cases IF the two parties with grievances would just talk to each other (without an audience), it could solve/resolve most issues.

Open discussion can be a good thing if ALL parties agree to be civil. Each statement should be backed up with facts, only constructive comments be posted, and only those directly involved should participate. We have had some intense and very heated discussions on the site. This usually presents different sides to the same issue very well. We ask for references when needed in order to check the facts or gain additional information.
If someone questions your standards, they are not high enough.

Hey Ian...
I just wanted to apologies... Your post kind of brought into perspective how inappropriate personal feelings should be kept personal.

I'll do better

Not for nothin Ian,but there are alot of channels here.Easy to skip over those you don`t care to watch.

While I didn`t find the recent problem discussions pleasant I did find them to be enlightening and a chance to both learn something and test my abilities to remain respectful and (somewhat)objective.
The up side is we now have a new member who is sharing pics and opening up to sharing his considerable knowledge about old power hammers.

Sorry if it caused anybody any heartburn or upset anyone.

One reason we monitor the forum is so there are no personal attacks. When things degrade, it is usually just a matter of holding a mirror so the parties can see themselves from another view point, or someone requesting they take a step back and realign things to north. This is not intended to stop the discussion, only to keep it civil. When given the opportunity people will act as ladies and gentlemen and be civil to each other.

How many times have you seen a person's fur stand on end when someone comes up and says "Your doing that wrong, let me show you how".

How many times have you seen two people work together when the same person comes up and says, "would you like me to show you an easier way to do that?"

Same people, same problem, just different approaches.
Which approach do you use?

I think that the discussion may have gotten a little out of hand. But both sides seem to have just agreed to disagree. That just happens sometimes. Hope that we can all be civil, especially on the site. Good to see you back, Larry.

I am glad that Glenn has the diplomacy to help get this hatchet buried, so to speak. I am also glad that IFI has gained a valuable source of knowledge who is willing to share after everything.

I was a bit worried whether I should have lodged the first post, but there has been positive feedback so it's all good. Thanks to everyone and Larry no need to apologize, it was just my thoughts in general, not aimed at anyone in particular. :)

Cheers
