I Forge Iron

anvil Identification

Recommended Posts

Thank you for your information.  I was wondering  what the W and not quit so visible S on the left front foot meant. And where would I look for a weight?

Can you explain the numbers that are visible?

I will have to take more pictures  but what is the best way to test for a solid or cast with a steal plate.

Well to get an accurate weight I'd suggest the bathroom scale.   Also on the opposite side of the foot with the serial number IIRC.  If you want to know the most about it: "Anvils in America" by Richard Postman is currently the best book available on the subject and even if you are not in America, the Trenton is an American anvil and so well covered in it.
