  1. Thanks - this knurled top and the inner barrel spin on this oiler and will lift maybe a 1/16 of an inch. Not enough to expose the oiling port. I to was wondering about the dents. This blower came with the original 408 forge pan. I have since gotten by hands on the blower bracket and original hood for the 408 and I'm trying to get it up and running for late summer and fall demonstrations. That brings us back to the oiler. I missed out on the line shaft driven 14 inch blower. By the time I understood what it was it was gone. Thanks for your interest and help. -grant
  2. Good morning all - It is to be hoped this post finds you well. I've got an oiler off a champion 400 blower that I cant get to open. The cap starts to lift, so not completely stuck, but wont open enough to fill. There are a couple of slits in the top of the body but I'm not clever enough to understand how to get it apart. Any help would be appreciated. -grant
  3. Testing edit. That does it. Thanks Frost Man -grant
  4. Thanks for the responses. Farmall's got it. Also, is there a way to edit a post after submission? -tks grant
  5. Thanks - that's what Margie said. But I can't get from that to a horizontal line shaft. -grant
  6. Good morning all, it is to be hoped this finds you and yours well. I interested in finding what the mechanism is and what it is used for on the end of the main shaft on the 400 pictured below. Pictures in use would be great. tks grant
  7. Good morning all - I found a period correct Champion 400 series forge, but I need some parts. I'm especially interested in the cast bracket that bolts to the bottom of the pan that mounts the blower and the cast bracket that bolts to the bottom of the pan that the fire pot bolts to, the 1/2 hood would be nice. There is a picture of what I've got, a picture of what I'm trying to achieve and finally a Picture of the demo setup I'm upgrading. Any help, parts or pieces is appreciated. Before I found the hearth I had posted this in the tailgating section. -tks grant
  8. ks3680 - try this link http://www.leesauder.com/index.php
  9. Good morning all Here is my version. Everything can be man handled by one person, I usually find someone to help with the vice and the anvil, a lower truck or trailer would help, The construction box is on wheels and there is a set of ramps. I lock all the small stuff in the construction box a night, then cover the box during the DEMO with a painters cloth and use it as the display area.
  10. The nice thing about the gas saver valve is one does not need to reset the mixture valves. On the version of Wendell’s “treadle torch” I saw he had moved the pilot light off the gas saver valve and mounted the torch on an arm that swung through the pilot light and then continued out of the way to allow the material to be heated access to the torch. In treadle mode the treadle opened the valve and held and lit the torch. -grant
  11. Good morning all Abraham, what part of Colorado? There is a DEMO this Saturday in Broomfield, welding for the blacksmith. Check out the workshops section on the Rocky Mountain Smiths site. http://rockymountainsmiths.org/ -grant
  12. This is a picture of the offending fireplace! PS Where is the post preview - tks grant
  13. This was sent to me by wpearson; exactly what I was looking for - thanks. I would think that there should be some reference to this in the Colorado or Pueblo County Code and if I built the arrester to comply with this there should be no problem with the Insurance Company .http://www.sanramon.ca.gov/bldgrefer/refsparkarrestor.htm
  14. Now we are getting down to it. I had not thought of UL compliance, i'm headed back to Rye, I'll post some pictures and see if we can integrate; UL, field stone, and rustic bungalow. I might be nice if is still draws like it has for the last 93 years; it's a cracker.
  15. Thanks Mat -it's a 92 year old field stone fireplace and chimney. I'll post some pictures. I've got some expanded material lift over from a window well covers project; i'll whip something up. I thought there might be some science/guildlines out there. -grant
