  1. Beyond the health warnings, the patterning looks real nice! Did you end up welding the two pieces together or did you make two billets? ~Steve
  2. Awesome! epic music, almost horror movie-like. The teamwork on making those rings, yeah that is skill..
  3. So you printed the part sin plastic and then cast them in metal? Or do you have the capability to print/sinter metals directly? Either way, it's cool! More pics of the process please! ~Steve
  4. Really nice work! Great combination of detail to match the damascus. well done.
  5. Keep up the good work Swords, the next one will be twice as nice! ~Steve
  6. That is really cool! Nice work. Any thoughts on a vibration element to help with self- feeding?
  7. What if you grind the top surface where the plate will be mounted to convex (dome up) just a hair.. Maybe 1/16 max. Then clamp the top plate down flat, preloading it a bit. Weld the perimeter. At that point it will be sprung tight. hard facing might be a better option though, even with the miles of bead you'll need! ~Steve
  8. My fisher's table measures 17-1/2 x 15-1/4 with a 1-1/8 hardy hole. Kinda sorta in-between sizes compared to the Fisher PDF you posted. I'm assuming they changed sizes every now and then, when they moved locations, patterns wore out etc? Its dated 1881. ~Steve
  9. Okay well then here's the link: http://s83.photobucket.com/user/srmaietta/library/first%20knife
  10. Hey guys, well we had a few days of nice weather and motivation was high so I pounded out some mild steel... My first time at an anvil for more than two minutes and my first time at a 2x72 belt! I will get my hands on some "real" steel soon but in the mean time enjoy some pics of my journey starting at 12" x 1" x .250 ..... Not sure how to post a link to the album so Ill try a few ways... ~Steve that werent it, bad attempt at linking removed.
  11. Thanks Steve, I have a few books and have read a lot about it, just wanted some ideas on the variety of steels out there. Looks like I will most likely get some 1084 and be done with it. ~Steve (lots of Steves in this thread!)
  12. I will be seeing Aldo! I live a town away from his location. . thanks again, I will be posting pics whenever I can get to forging. ~Steve
