G'day mate, I picked one of these up years ago & it had me stumped as to what it was for. My grandfather was a cobbler but that was before I was born so that didn't help much. It was my father that told me it was used to stretch the leather in the end of shoes to give your toes a bit more room and such.
My shoes could do with some stretching but they don't work to well on steel-caps !!
