I agree, this "thank" deal is silly. IMO, if you want to make a chance to the profile in the left of each persons post you will make their location a required field. Seems like Glenn or some one else is always asking for a new poster to go in and make this chage to their profile. This would make more sense than the "thank you". Like others have mentioned above, this could turn into 'padding' your buddies 'thanks' total. "looky, looky, looky, I have 2,368 'thank yous', see how good I am.

the 'rep' system used on some other forums does work very well. You can 'glance' at it when reading their advice, and it gives an indicator of the general quality of their posts.

You cannot 'over rep' the same person, within defined parameters which makes it 'abuse proof'

The main advantage of the 'rep' is you are not just judging someone by their quantity of posts - some people have huge post counts just by saying 'yeah dude' after every comment.

Like on this forum, you may receive some advice, see 'senior member' 500+ posts and assume the information is good .
