Default Union Made and Made in the USA

For those that believe supporting fellow Americans workers is important for the country's health. I just found out that you can still buy made in the USA Carhartt's and other clothing. Much if it is still Union made. UFCW Local 227 - News

I found out about this, because I wrote a letter to Carhartt, complaining about them being like everyone else and selling out for few more penny's.

They wrote back and explained that they were trying to keep at least part of their line, Union made and Made in the USA. My next step was to e-mail my local Co-op and ask them why they weren't carrying the Made in the USA Carhartts. Monday, I'll be returning a pair I just bought and ordering the right stuff.

Hey Gerald,
Thanks for that heads up! I just checked my "Detroit style" Carhartt jacket (the rockin and rollin, stylin jacket for the hard-working man about town!) and sure enough "Assembled in Mexico of American made components"! It hadn't even crossed my mind that and American icon like Carhartt would be shipping work out of the country.

Sadly, though, it seems like "Made in U.S.A." is becoming more of a sales gimmick than a quality assurance. I assembled a swingset for my daughter two summers ago. Right on the outside of the crate in BIG BOLD LETTERS was "Made in America." Luckily I had a chop saw and drill handy as I had to shorten one of the uprights and one of the top tubes and drill out a couple of the stamped/punched holes just to get the bolts through.... the brand of the swingset? Flexible Flyer, another brand I kinda consider an American icon, who also has "Made in the USA" all over their website. Sent them a couple emails giving my opinion but never heard back.

-Aaron @ the SCF (who would like to apologize in advance for going on a U.S.-centric patriot rant on an international website)
