Default Treadle hammer

OK, as some might or might not know, been slowly assembling the parts and stuff to make my own treadle hammer modeled after Jerry Alan's world famous Rusty/Dusty/SuperRusty/Krusty. Well is seems now I am getting pretty close. I have the

motor(1 horsepower)
hammer head and anvil
website that sells V belt pulleys in small to large enough sizes
Design for 360 degree adjustable dies setup, which is SO easy to build
place for bearings

All that is left now is to find and get the hardware parts, the peice of tubing for the upright to hold up the leafspring swingarm, the leafspring swingarm, odd bits of tubing, a main base plate, and that is about it, other than to put it all together. Getting really close, hopefully will be able to get it up and running by spring or summer.

Apprenticeman, A treadle hammer is foot powered. The rusty is a type of power hammer. Sounds like a fun project. hope you have good luck with it. BTW. why did you choose the rusty design over say a tire hammer or something else?

Yeah that is what I mean, like a motorised treadle style hammer. I chose the rusty design over the tire hammer design because, hmm, I don't know actually. I feel the Rusty is more appealing, I would like to build a tire hammer in the future as well too, but right now it seems like the Rusty is more practical as far as my building skills and equipment go. I feel also I guess maybe that the Rusty style has alot of potential to maximise the mechanical advantage between the motor and hammer head itself, making a very efficient and powerful machine, with low cost and electricity use. Also size wise, I could probebaly fit a Rusty in my shop much better then a tire hammer, I have low ceilings. Also I hope to be able to make some money selling a few hammers, to build another design of mechanical power hammer similar to the Japanese style hammers, but with parts that can all be bought, with only a few peices fabricated, like a big power hammer kit.

Nope. I have closely studied and started to understand really well the way they work, and what needs to be where parts and stuff. Everything else I will be doing by the seat of my pants. The only person I know of who has made and uses a Krusty is Daniel Gentile.

FERRUM - Daniel Gentile - Mechanical Power Hammer Plans

He has CAD plans for free there on that link in PDF format. Mine will be maybe close to 70 pound ram, though I am not sure yet. And here it is in use:

They are top secret right now. Hehe seriously though, they are my own design, I haven't really tested them out yet, except on paper. If you want I guess I could email you the design.
