Default Throw Over Gate Loop

Friends of mine saw these down in Soutch Carolina and wanted me to make one.

Obviously no problem to make it, but I wanted to dress it up a bit, figured someone here had probably made one before and might have some ideas about it.

Great! A simple, yet effective way to latch a gate!
I'll have to file the idea away for later use.
Thanks for posting this........

you could make it out of twisted square stock, give it a victorian look.

Make a spiffy handle projecting from each side---say a dragon's head or ram's head.

Punchwork ornamentation for the sides or for those who will pay for it! Their name cut out on the side, punched on the side, brazed to the side, etc.

You could do all kinds of piercing. Making it look like iron lace would be cool.

Ornate handles, catches, etc. would be nice too.

Twists, scrolls and other various fancy work.

The functional part of the latch is so simple you can do virtually anything with it. All you need is an appropriate saddle to fit over the gate rails everything else that doesn't interfere is fair game.

I'm filing this one away as well.

Thanks for the pic.

Make it look like a rope.

Fake everyone out.

Hmm, partially weld up some cable; some lays sometimes look like a rope---perhaps doing the welding using a wooden mallet instead of a steel hammer...
