It's an imitation . . cast in a foundry near here. . .or so I've been told ..

It follows the German STYLE ..but I doubt it was made in Germany . ..

It is still made of good quality steel .. and has a nice ring to it. .

Default my anvil

My 236 lb peter wright.
Its quite dinged up but thats probably a good thing as i'm just learning. I wouldn't want to damage a new anvil with my novice hammer control.
p.s. i hope i did the image thing right.

I just talked with one of the smiths in our local chapter and he wanted me to bring my little anvil by to see if it is "fixable". This is the first time I really looked at it. I have never tried to identify it because there were no visible markings on it. Until I flipped it over. there are three, what appear to be, capital letter "D"s on the bottom. would any of you more knowlegable gents or lasses have any idea as to make? I am not a collector but am now curious.

thanks

On the bottom? Hmmm... I could be wrong but I don't think this is a foundry mark. Could be from a previous owner as an I.D. mark if stolen.
I do something similar with my guns. Under the buttcap I carve the last four digits of my S.S.N. into the wood then replace the buttcap. Even if a thief had hours to rummage through my house those guns would probably not be found anywayDan.

Here is my 200+ pound Trenton, with my 4.4 pound hammer on top. I still gotta tie it to the stump better. I use it for rough heavy work, as the face is a bit sway backed. I use my smaller Peter Wright for everyday work though.

Here's my brand new (to me), first ever anvil that will soon-ish blossom into a full-on shop.

Mexican, I assume, because it has MEXICO stamped on the side, cast, and of indeterminate weight. It's been a while since I've lifted anything in the hundred-to-hundreds of pounds category, but almost certainly over 150# and less than 250#.

Northtown,
Very nice find.
I am your neighbor, I live in Utah.
For the last several years I come to, or thru LasVegas about 3 or 4 times per year. Maybe someday I could drop by and see your anvil in person.
I lived and worked in Vegas in the late 60's at the Sands Hotel and Casino.
You should be pretty safe with me in your shop. I can’t lift over 50 lbs. any more, and I can’t run fast.
I weigh people when they come into my shop, and again when they leave my shop also. Then I know if they got something with out paying for it. The theft rate cut way down until I started to find sand spread on the floor. ................................ Just kidding! ……………………………………. The sand was found in small piles!
Be safe

I'll make this a multi purpose post.

I havn't lit my forge in over 30 years, but am now getting around to moving all my stuff into my new shop.

I have an old cast forge that my dad and I found one day while deer hunting. I was only about 10 at the time.
We drug it out, cleaned it up, and I was hooked. I plan on moving it in after xmas. No pics yet.

I have 2 anvils.

A little 87 lb Peter Wright,

and a ferriers anvil that calls its self a MULTI PROD. Have not been able to find anything out about it, but it is kinda cool.

Forgot the "multi purpose" part of the post, so I'll do it my 2nd official post.

I manage a Lumber yard. Have for about 18 years.
But for some reason, Metal is my passion.
I do mostly welding and fabricating for friends, as a hobby, not a bussiness.
Just bought a new place in the country back in may, with a 40 x 60 shop that I call my PLAYHOUSE.
If you come over looking for me, that is where I am at.
The house was for the wife.
