Demonstrator: DOUG MERKEL. Doug is a veteran instructor at the prestigous John C. Campbell Folk School. Here is his BIO as seen in their catalog and website:
"Doug Merkel a full-time smith, maintains a studio in the mountains of North Carolina. He specializes in rendezvous, reenactment and 18th-century blacksmithing, but continues to do commissions, artwork, and ironwork for the home builder. Active in chapters of the Artist Blacksmith's Association of North America, Doug is a former member of its board of directors. He also conducts demonstrations and classes for groups within the U.S."

Items to be demonstrated:
1. "Forging the Hofi Hammer"
2. nail header
3. "Ferrier's Rasp Tomahawk"
4. "One Light Table Lamp"
5. "Saw tooth Trammel"
6. "A Wax for all Seasons".

These are the titles of all his projects that will be covered on the 15th. He has sent a 12 page handout with his notes and drawings for each project to give everyone there. So you can spend more time watching and less time writing and drawing!

Reminders: Don't forget to bring something for Iron In The Hat!!! A chair, and your camera. This will be a meeting to remember!

Directions: From 360 east or west turn across from Goodman Truck & Tractor onto business 360. Go to the first road on your right and turn right. Continue to the stop sign. Go straight through the intersection and proceed approx. 2 miles. Yesteryear Forge is on the right up on a hill-look for a brick house and a black anvil sign in the front yard. The forge is all the way in the back. There is plenty of parking by the forge.

***BE CAREFUL WITH MAPQUEST DIRECTIONS. THEY WILL GET YOU LOST BY TAKING YOU THROUGH THE TOWN OF AMELIA!***

ALL IFI MEMBERS AND LURKING GUESTS ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND!

any questions please let me know.
PLEASE RSVP TO ENSURE A COPY OF DOUG'S HAND OUT...and it gives us a good count for lunch!
