That is very cool Blackbeard. If it makes me happy to see you progress in the craft, you must be kinda happy also. Keep going, and keep on keeping on! I really don't know exactly what that means, but it is good! Be safe! Old Rusty Ted

Looking good Blackbeard. What weight stock did you start with and what's the finish? Do the clients want the curtain rods to go with? I sure hope they have that much sense. Frosty

Thanks guys the encouriging replies really helps me to do bigger and better(hopefully)things.Frosty the stock was 1/2 inch rb, the finish wire brush and a clear laquer. Nope they havent asked for the rods- they want 2 lampshades and house numbers though! Bb |

Lamp shades and house numbers are good though it wouldn't hurt to ask about the curtain rods. Unless you have already! This isn't the time to get pushy being your first commission and all. Have they seen the tie backs? They may just be waiting to see what you've done for them. That's happened to me more than once. After the first couple times I learned to take careful measurements when someone wanted a single copy of what should be a set. It makes it a bunch easier to match what you've already done. Good job. Thanks Frosty thats some real good advice- ill start taking measurements! They have seen the tiebacks and were impressed- hard to make a price though since i dont have a clue what to charge cause blacksmithing is so scarce in SA. I made it cheap cause i figure its good advertising- got this job through a leaf keyring i did for my wife and the client saw it- i guess the product is the best ad you get! Bb |

| Cool! Nothing beats good word of mouth avertising to get known around the area. Don;t charge too cheap or you'll not make a living and get sort of stuck with alot of work you are not getting enough money for, but too expensive and it will be prohibitive to the customers who aren't loaded.

Andre, I 've got friends in the Freestate, Bethlehem, they carge about 6 times the gross material and other costs. And that is on big stuff. Don't be shy, boet. It's not boilermaking and that goes for R30,00 per kg, yours should be at least double that. Onthou jy maak iets wat baie skaars en uniek is! Your work looks good great man, I am proud to be living in the same country as you. Wim.
