Default Custom Copper Range Hood

I built this oven range hood for our new house we are having built. The copper plate is .062” thick and the steel frame is ½’ angle and 1” flat bar. I used dome headed steel rivets and using a technique I saw on this website I made the rivets into a Clavos or pyramid shaped head. I made them square then used a tool I made to modify the head. It took me 130 rivets to put it together and I hope I never have to take it apart The copper plate cost a bit but I wanted something sturdy, overall weight I would guess about 70 pounds. The hood hides a store bought under cabinet mounted Jen-Air range I bought off eBay for $5.00 + shipping being that it was the floor model and had a dent in the front of it I got it pretty cheap. I used an orbital sander on the copper plate to get the swirl pattern. All in all I am real pleased with the results and my wife loves it and that is the most important part.

Thanks! The builder hasn't installed the cabinets yet, but once the kitchen is finished I'll take another picture.

Default Very Nice

That is one cool looking range hood. I can imagine it's going to be a real conversation piece in the kitchen.

Having hand made items, especially those items where you can see the care and craftsmanship which went into their construction, really adds a bit of elegance and makes the whole room seem more impressive. Kudos for a job well done!
