what quenchant is best for MC steel?

Don't let anyone say that spittin' in the river won't make it any deeper 'cause it will. but when you take that all is either evaporated or goes to the sea, it won't make that much difference will it?

MC? Medium Carbon? Up to .30% C you can use water, over .30% use oil. It also depends on the alloy content and the section size you are quenching.

and what you hope to acomplish by quenching? are you trying to get it real hard ? why not use a higher carbon steel? or are you trying to get toughness out of it? superquench will give a bit more hardness but it is a caustic solution...
