Default what is it?

It's a growth that was on an oak tree next to where a limb has been broken off--it's woody but was probably caused by a fungus. It looks like a snail so I dressed it up a little more with the eyes on stems (pop rivet nails)--smoothing and linseed oiling the surface and giving it a smiley mouth. The figured grain is really nice.

Default Couple more bits I found lurking

A blast from the past, maybe a couple of hundred years old, the portable one with handles came from an old English Castles garrison smithy

Default Not a tree, but

Anything convienient that will get you higher than the mean ole dog can reach. Life is full of surprises when you are real young. Might make a good advertisement for fabric softener with Febreeze in it though.

I don't miss seeing those little darlings! We used to live in Goldthwaite, TX in the geographacal center of TX, and that is a regular sight. Them and copperheads. I have only seen (& killed) about 5 copperheads and 1 pigmy rattler in the 31 years we have been in East Texas! And it don't bother me none! That is some lady ya got there to handle one even if it is dead!

This was crossing the back yard, so Whitesmith just picks it up and carries it in the woodpile. He said it was headed in that direction anyway, he just helped it along. (grin)
