Default Hello from Ireland

I’m a blacksmith working in Co. Sligo, Ireland and only use traditional forging techniques in all my work. This is mostly because I hate grinding down arc welds but I have found it is not that much more time consuming.

Here is my latest piece of sculpture. It is for a private customer out in Connemara. They could not grow anything over 3ft tall in their garden as the Atlantic wind knocks everything. It is about eight and a half feet tall, made from ten feet long 20mm round bar drawn out to fifteen feet and given a bark texture though-out.

That looks as if it has actually grown there.

Very unusual, but very nice.

Great work,

Don

It DOES look as though it actually grew there. Very nice work indeed.
I do feel sorry for the unknowing chap who has a go with a pair of pruning loppers!

The first picture with the lake and the hills is stunning. Also a fine bit of iron work. Nice!

That is just awesome! How deep of a hole did you have to dig to support the piece?

Thanks for all your kind comments. The hole was 600mm deep and 1100mm by 1300mm.

Here is a photo that the cliant has taken in the last few days.
