I use 75% argon 25% CO2 and sometimes 80%-20% for my mig. I don't have a Tig. I hear that 100%CO2 will give you deeper penetration for mig welding.

Question Moon Gone??

Anybody ever heard of Moon Gone (Moongone) gas for MIG? Dunno if it's a brand name or what. A guy I know said it makes it weld hotter for better penetration. My welding supplier confirmed its existence, but had little more info on it. BTW, I too use 75/25 at home and at work for solid wire on steel. At work we used straight co2 for flux core wire and submerged arc on steel, and straight argon on aluminum.

I use co2 in owner tanks that I get from junkyards or the dump. Cheaper than leasing a tank, I keep three on hand, for mig. For tig I mostly use argon, but helium provides more heat for welding Al.

75/25 for steel
100% argon for aluminum
Tri-Mix for stainless.
