Default New forge, new sword

1084, double edge forged in diamond cross section. Started with 1/4 thick 1 1/2 inch wide 1084 from Mace and Aldo at Ashokan. Cleaned a bit of the scale off with an angle grinder and 120 grit, then cleaned that up with my big stone wheel(350 grit). still some scale to take off though. Cleaned up the profile a bit too.

COOL!

Also love the Swedish hammer. .I can;t find any of those here. .

Anyways. about how much time do you have to forge to reach that level of skill?

I sure will, this will be my personal sword, as a display of a euro style example of my work, going to do it up pretty good.

Thanks Mende! I am not sure of shipping to Romania, if i could find out i would be more than happy to send you one. I have been forging ironwork and stuff for a little over 4 years now, and started out in my basement with a propane plumber's torch heating up hardware store nails and banging away on my 22 pound cast steel anvil. After that i graduated to a coal forge(homebuilt) made from an old cast iron hibachi grill i got at an estate auction. Around the time that started to fall apart from the sever heat, i scored an apprenticeship 6 hors away in Vermont under a master artist blacksmith. I spent 6 months learning how to forge shapes and curves and lines, scrolls and do them nice and clean. Both that apprenticeship, even though how short it was and the instructor did not and REFUSED to make blades, never did, and the years after of self teaching myself, helped with doing blades. Learning the basics of blacksmithing and how to move metal intimately helps LOADS, may not seem like the road to swords but it will help loads. I just wish I was better at finishing them! I can forge swords 3 a day but have not done much finishing.
