Question wrought iron

i just got a few yards of 1 to 1-1/4 round stock what is ideal heat color for this material itried light red to yellow but it seems to splinter and split quite readily tips pls

White, just at or below sparkle.

To draw, hammer square to about desired size then 8sides 16, 32 etc.. to round

Work it at a temperature that would have modern steel burning up!

I would also try higher heat but some wrought iron is red short so it splits at most any temp. A lot of wagon rims were made from the cheaper stuff since it was considered sacrificial - sort of like a modern tire; the assumption was that it WILL wear out with enough miles.

I was tought to use a reducing fire and work at welding heat. Wrought iron a bunch of iron fibers that will try to come apart if your not keeping the welded/
