Default Log splitter

Here's one for you guys and gals, I read in magazines all the time about log splitters and stuff with 2 tons, 4 tons, 1,000 pounds of force. Now, on a gas operated log splitter, would it be possible to disconnect the i beam frame from the wheels and motor mount, and mount the part of the i beam with the hydraulic piston and pump and stuff vertical, replace the splitting heads with flat hammer heads or power hammer style dies, raise the non moving head up so that it will definately make contact with the ram head, weld in a guide so the moveing head dosn't shift it's axis, and have a nice serviceable press for damascus and stuff? It could also be used for like punching and stuff.

the beam is not speced for the two parts coming together as wood is supposed to split and thus give instead of having a great strain put on it by coming up agains something imovable. It will probably just bend the beam or break something. And 2 or 4 tons is not very much force to start with.

Oh, so you would have to strengthen up the beam?
