Default what kind of trinkets do they make in Europe?

Hello,
I was wondering what kind of trinkets do the smiths in Europe make? We make dinner bells, trivets, steak turners, leaves and such. Are folks over there interested in the same things? How much smithing do these guys do on modern stuff/ local manufacturing?

Default What do they make answer

Well, so far I've seen everything that you guys would make in the states! Yes they make leaves and feathers as well as Architectural stuff like balconies and handrails. Everything from furniture to candle holders. Its a different country but people still use the same things and still love the little nik naks we all do. Today I saw some wonderful repouse Moose work (lol)
That is to say little Moose charicatures made from three mill steel plate that was repouse work. That was in Southern Sweden and a report will eventually follow. Generally its the same kind of stuff that you would find in the states, the only difference is in the imagination and cultural influences of the smith whose doing the work.

Well, Dear 'Guest', why the xxxx not?
I mean if you have the talent and the imagination to create charicatures of an Animal at all (and one that your area is famous for to the point where german tourists steal the warning roadsigns) and can then sell enough of them to keep bread on the table I think your doing pretty well. Do you make a full time living from Blacksmithing? Kudos if you do, but hardly sporting to knock someone else because of how they do it.

Well said Tinker, I couldn't have said that as nice as you did! This is a wonderful website frequented by lots of good gentlesmiths, and yes we do give eachother a hard time now and again. But our " Guest " is acting like a pest, and would NOT be welcomed in my shop! Attn: Guest If you can't say anything nice shut your Pie hole !
PS: I can't wait to see the report Ian

Sincerly,
Jens

The IForgeIron site if a family site, and if you will notice his objectionable curse words were edited, and notes were made so you could tell that the admin did the editing. This keeps IForgeIron an informational resource that we hope you find comfortable to visit, and that you will tell your friends about.

Thanks for keeping a clean shop, Glenn. I have been around rough crowds all my life and I would just as soon be somewhere that encourages lively expression without cheapening it.

Hello every one

itīs like Ian said we ( the european smithīs) make everything from furniture to candle holders. Its a different country but people still use the same things and still love the little nik naks we all do. Generally its the same kind of stuff that you would find in the states, the only difference is in the imagination and cultural influences of the smith whose doing the work.
Once again, hope Ian having a time of his life and come back and visit us

Default Hi Karl!

Glad to see you've joined the site Karl! I have some information on Australia, but the email adress you gave me won't work
If you can send me an email to bigbusian@yahoo.co.uk and I will forward the details that a good mate of mine 'Chopper' from Australia dug out for me. If your posting here you should also try contacting a user called 'Strine' who is also Australian and WELL WORTH talking to

Thanks for making me feel welcome at the shop too. I had a great time with you guys and would like to know how you get on.

All the best mate,

IAN 8)
