Default My first damascus knife

Just finished this Sunday. My first success with damascus. I have lots more to learn but I'm having a ball!

the composition of the billet is 1075 and Nicholson black diamond files. the layer count is somewhere in the two hundred range I lost count. Etched with muratic acid. fittings are cast in place pewter. the handle is deer bone.

That should put ya in the 1085 range. Good job!
How fast did the muratic work?

fresh acid gave me a great etch in less than 15 minutes. Plenty of ventilation is a MUST though. The fumes are harmful and down right stinky!
