Yes !

Pallet banding material layered with bandsaw blade works beautifully for me ...

That being said all salvage materials are not made the same - Spark check and be prepared for possible * FAIL! * until you get used to your new material.

My $0.02

As Jens says, there are different qualities of pallet strapping; so check the stuff until you find the good stuff. Anothe4r way of checking is to heat it to non-magnetic and quench it in water and then check if it's brittle---CAREFULLY ,EYE PROTECTION MANDATORY!

I do most of my billets with BSB and pallet strapping starting with around 20 layers. One tip to working with it is to not weld the ends up byt wire the billet together. then as the outer layers heat faster and expand they don't bow out as much and you can tap them back down to prevent crud from getting between the layers.

I also alternate the BSB so for a coal forge I start with PS, BSB teeth up, PS BSB teeth down, PS, BSB teeth up, etc and nest the curves of the BSB and PS so the billet may be slightly curved but the piece stack tightly together.
