High temperature SAND?!?

Well found the quickrete MSDS for play sand, notes on page 5 that the melting point is a RIDICULOUS >3110F! That is HIGH! so i guess no worries of the sand turning into glass!

I made some keys out of spring steel and annealed them by heating them and putting them in LIME only I heated the pot of LIME on the gas stove first --I tried propane the gas stove for heating the spring steel the first time but its not hot enouth---

I have heard lime mentioned before also, it iwll be my second choice if the sand does not work, thanks Technovist.
