Default Forklift tine

I have been given several forklift tines (Blades). I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of steel this is. I have googled without much luck.

I think I read 5160 on this site ?
Regardless they make great portable anvils.

Thanks Pete.
After more searching yesterday I did find a site that sells new tines for the forklifts we have at work. All the site said was they were high carbon heat treated steel.

*Usually* a good medium carbon steel like 1050, 4140, etc. They are made to be tough rather than brittle.

Junkyard rules apply---ie you don't know what it really is without testing it.

I have nothing to add after Thomas Powers speaks, except that he is usually correct. Just to back that up, I did contact a place here in the upstate of South Carolina. They use loads of these things and I was informed that the tines are 4140.

Tooling! Triphammer dies, hammer heads (cut in strips with a bandsaw), custom anvils (see Marco/Krieger Armory - Rapiers and Accessories for one idea of what to do with a large tine!)

Well I have to admit that I'm the "Thomas" they thanked. I'm glad I didn't know how much those tines weighed when I drug the first one out of the woods by myself.
