Default Fabricating a side draught tuyere from stainless steel

I'm about to make a tuyere from some 70mm (2 3/4") and 20mm (3/4") thick wall stainless tube. For the nose of the tuyere I have available a range of stainless plate from 8mm (3/8") to 25mm (1"). Should I use the thickest plate available or would the thinner plate be better able to benefit from the effect of the water cooling?

Well as an experiment say you go with the thicker plate. Many years from now you (or possibly your heirs) can measure how much of the plate remains and did benefit from the water cooling. Then you (or they) will know the perfect thickness to use.

The 3/8" is certainly sufficient.

The home built side blast I use has a 1/8th washer on the front of it. It's been working fine for quite a while. I'm about to make one out of 1/8th. If it burns through then I'll make the next one bigger
