Not a 'craft' book, but an exceptionally good source book for ideas of things to make and to identify things you are sure have a purpose, but can’t work out what it is.

The title says it all, but for those interested the chapters are: The Hearth; Cooking & other kitchen utensils; Artificial light; Tobacco smoking; Various other items; American colonial implements.

This book was first published in 1927, and last in 1970. It provides accurate verbal and graphical (to scale) illustrations of the everyday things that were once a necessity but are now collectors’ items. I and a friend have already made several things and have found the descriptions of construction particularly helpful.

If you have an interest in making iron implements for yourself, this book is superb, but very hard to find even using the internet.
