Black iron pipe is cheap. If there is any chance of that pipe coming into contact with the fire in the forge, don't use it. The problem with zinc is when it is exposed to fire the fumes it gives off are toxic. Also a secondary problem with zinc is breathing the dust from grinding it off. What scrapman said!!
