Clay Temper on L6 Steel

Posted by hogallen, 02 October 2011 · 53 views

The results of my first attempt at a clay temper of L6 steel. The project was mildly successful. First the steel was aquired from concrete saw blades, annealed and the cut into to bars for forge work. The blades were forged to the basic shape including the tapers and the holes punched for the full tang handle. The flatness was obtained thru careful hammering and then filed flat. Final shaping was done on a Kalamazoo 48" belt grinder. The 80 grit belt leave a rough enought surface for the clay mixture to adhere to the knife.
