Pop-Pop, Put-Put, Tup-Tup, many other names describe the sound. These are tin boats with simple diaphragm impulse steam engines that operate with a candle. They were popular in the 20's, and still made today as a niche market.
I have built 2 working engines now. One a simple coil of 1/8 inch copper tubing, the other a 2 inch diameter copper and brass boiler.
The brass membrane I used was .001 shim stock, the copper was a sheet of flashing that I pressed using a washer and a motor housing. I punched two holed for the exhausts and soldered it together.
While the thin membrane made a lovely sound it failed in at least 2 manners. The solder on the rim broke, and a tube pierced the membrane. The 1/8 inch tubing may be too small in diameter for this size of boiler.
Sorry, no pictures today

I would like to see pic of your boat engine and the plans for it. I have been reading and searching for plans.
Thanks,
