The begining

On a dark and stormy night....really, it was! My mother hands me a book, "Back to Basics". Bored out of my mind, I start flipping through the pages. I soon come across a brake drum forge....and the fever set in. Then it's a mad dash to get all these parts with as little money as possible.

One week later I have everything I need. I put all the parts together for the forge only to realize I don't have anything to burn. So whats a guy to do? I ask my mother. She promptly reminds me of a bucket of charcoal that she took camping that is full. I open the bucket and find the brickets have molded. Oh well, it's my first time and into the bowl they go. Lighting them was a pain but I soon had a flame roaring and a RR spike becoming a bright yellow...

Thats some cool thinking right there. :D I had a set up low to the ground like that learned real quick what a pain in the back it is bending over all the time and made a table for my forge on the cheap. Good work on your forge.
We did about the same thing. Luckily we found a coal source about 50 miles from the house. Coal makes all the difference. Have fun. I do.
